OpenAthens Self-Registration

An OpenAthens account provides off-network access to the high-quality, evidence-based medical, nursing, and allied health information resources provided by the Defense Health Agency (DHA). It can also be used as a workaround to access library resources when experiencing problems with direct IP access while on the DHA network. Only those listed below are authorized to register.

  • DoD service members in a DoD medical-related Area of Concentration/Military Occupational Specialty
  • Civilians or contractors stationed at a DHA medical-related facility to include research institutes and laboratories, environmental health centers, schools, and training activities, etc.
  • Volunteers at a DHA medical treatment facility involved in direct patient care
  • Please note the exceptions for the DHHQ and VML OpenAthens accounts

Authorized users must register for OpenAthens with their health.mil or DoD affiliated email address. The OpenAthens accounts are based on your service branch and eligibility.
